First, what is OS? An operating system or OS is a software program software program that deals with the communication and operation between computer hardware and computer software. Basically, it is the heart of a computer system.
Examples of computer operating systems · Microsoft Windows – An operating system for PC. Microsoft Windows is the most common used Operating System.
· Apple macOS - Apple Mac operating system. Today, the only Apple computer operating system is macOS. · Ubuntu Linux - A popular variant of Linux used with PC and IBM compatible computers. · Google Android - Operating system used with Android compatible phones and tablets. · iOS – an Operating system used in Apple iPhone and iPads.
Today, many versions of operating systems are released and available to use. Let’s find out what is the top operating system for PC, tablets and smartphones. As of August 2016, Windows is the most popular desktop computer operating system. However, Android is the most popular operating system if you include all mobile devices.
Most popular operating systems
For PC,
· Windows is the most popular operating system for laptop and desktop computers. The most common Windows Operating System is Windows 7 followed by Windows 10, 8.1, XP, Vista and others. Windows 7 is by the best Windows OS from Microsoft to date. It's fast, easy to use, excellent user experience, the user interface and visual styles look amazing and has everything a user needs for daily tasks and gaming.
· The top second Operating System for PC is Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a computer operating system based on the Linux distribution and distributed as a free and open source software. It is named after the Southern African philosophy of ubuntu which means ("humanity towards others"). Ubuntu is the most popular Linux distribution on laptop and desktop computers.
· The third is Mac OS. Mac OS is the computer operating system for Apple’s line of laptops and personal computers.
For smartphones,
· Android is the most popular operating system for mobile phones. Android is currently the most used smartphone platform due to numerous people using it. One of its best feature comprises the capability to personalize multiple home screens with useful widgets and apps that gives you easy access to the content and functions you most used. It is also capable of multitasking - the ability to close programs by just simply swiping the screen.
For tablets,
· iOS is the most popular operating system for tablets. Apple iOS operating system runs on Apple products such as iPhone, iPad and iPod. The Apple iOS is not allowed to be used in third party systems, so you will only be able to use it on products made by Apple. It also includes Safari web browser for your internet use, an iPod app for playing your music and Apple's Mail for checking and managing emails.
